St. John's House, standing on land with a history dating back to 1154, was originally granted to the Hospital of St. John the Baptist in 1154 by the 3rd Earl of Warwick. Its purpose was to provide accommodation for wayfarers, pilgrims, and the local poor. The property, later granted to Anthony Stoughton by Henry VIII in 1540, has witnessed various historical events, including the confirmation of the grant by Queen Elizabeth I in 1563. Anthony Stoughton junior, who inherited the site, commissioned the current building in 1626.

The Stoughton family, holding positions of authority in Warwick, owned the house until the 1780s. In 1791, it became St. John's Academy, offering education to boys. The building later transformed into a school for young ladies in 1828, then back to a school for young gentlemen in 1845, and again for young ladies in 1884.

The house bears witness to tragic events, such as Jane Stoughton's death in 1755 due to a fire while refueling, Ann Stoughton's demise after a burglar threat in an undisclosed incident, and Eugenia, an eccentric family member known for her love of cats. The chilling and tragic history makes St. John's House a haunting place to spend the night.
